Awesome Jello

The idea of filling a swimming pool with gelatin seems simple enough, but as engineer Mark Rober explains, it’s way more complicated than you might think. Leave it to a rocket scientist to figure out how to boil and then refrigerate an entire pool filled with 15 tons of Jello.

Jell-O’s new Play Build + Eat kits come with molds that you can use to make various LEGO-like building blocks. The included gelatin is made with a special recipe that makes them thicker and stackable. There are also Jell-O cookie cutter kits.

There is something kind of endearing about the approach JELL-O uses in this amusing commercial spot about a son imagining himself in his father’s follicles. If only chocolate pudding could solve more of our gripes.

Liz Hickok creates scale models of urban sites (like San Francisco here) entirely in Jell-O. Luminously glowing, the fragile medium bears odd similarities to the city’s uncertain geological landscape.
