Awesome Impressions

We’ve featured a number of Tom Scott’s videos over the years, and for the most part we’ve found them to be fascinating and informative. On the other hand, this parody video from comedian Matt Colbo has nothing useful to show or tell us at all.

Dee Bradley Baker has brought characters to life on everything from American Dad! to Samurai Jack. He also has the ability to imitate the sounds of all kinds of creatures, from birds to pigs to angry squirrels. Great Big Story sat down with Dee and asked him to improvise some animal noises. Those alien sounds were insane.

On this episode of IMDb’s Special Skills, Jay Pharoah is joined by Rhys Darby to spend a few minutes talking about impressions, as Rhys shares some of his tricks for making sound effects with his voice, who simply can’t resist trying to do an impression of his New Zealander guest. Michael Winslow has nothing to worry about… yet.

Jim Meskimen is one of the most talented impressionists out there. But while he can work wonders with his voice, he still can’t look like the celebs he impersonates. But with the help of AI tech, Sham00K was able to do just that, creepily transforming Jim’s face to match his vocals.

Actor and comedian Ross Marquand performed a number of his best celebrity impressions during an appearance on the Chicago tv program Windy City Live. But rather than have them act out what they’re best known for, he put them all in far more mundane situations.

Impressionist Jim Meskimen turns in a wonderful reading of Clement Clarke Moore’s Christmas classic in the voices of 27 different celebrities. The usuals, like Morgan Freeman and Ian McKellan are there, but it’s his Paul Giamatti that made us spit out our coffee.

Brock “The Man of a Kajillion Voices” Baker uses just 29 of his available impressions to follow in the footsteps Toto, Weezer, and everyone else on the Internet with his cartoon character version of the 1982 hit track Africa. Mostly he just made us miss Zoidberg and Brak.

We’ve heard him perform as characters from Game of Thrones and Family Guy before, now sit back and enjoy comedian and impressionist Scheiffer Bates‘ spot on vocalizations of Thor, Professor X, Magneto, Rocket Raccoon, and more. His Tony Stark, on the other hand… nope.

(PG-13: Language) Actor and comedian Jay Pharoah turns in a hilarious series of super short celebrity impressions, from Kevin Hart to Barack Obama to Ice-T to Chris Rock, each thrown into some mundane situation. We can totally picture that Kanye scenario.

(PG-13: Language) Impressionist Scheiffer Bates reading of the classic poem A Visit from St. Nicholas, done in the style of everyone from Peter Griffin to Rick Grimes to Gilbert Gottfried. Most of the impressions are pretty solid, though his Obama sounded like Meatwad to us.

We fully anticipate that the iPhone X’s animoji will be overplayed any day now, but for the moment, we’re still enjoying their novelty. Beatboxer and impressionist RudiRok applies his vocal talents to imagine what each character might sound like.

(PG-13: Language, Spoilers) Voice actor Scheiffer Bates turns in a great series of impressions, based on some of the most iconic characters from Game of Thrones. You know it’s good when you can close your eyes and envision each of the characters speaking the lines.

Impressionist Mikey Bolts takes on the 1999 Blackalicious classic Alphabet Aerobics, matching each letter of the alphabet to a cartoon character, and raps each part in their voice. We swear, the more we look at Mikey, the more we think he’s actually Peter Brady.

(PG-13: Language) “I’m Draymond Green – anything I kick is nuts.” Natural born impressionist Jay Pharoah brought bars when he dropped by DJ Whoo Kid’s radio show. Comedy bars, that is. Watch him rap like Eminem, Jay-Z, The Weeknd and more.

On The Howard Stern Show, Dana Carvey did a bit from his new Netflix special, Straight White Male, 60, in which he envisions a conversation between Paul McCartney and John Lennon where Paul tries to explain Kanye West. His micro-impressions are amusing too.

“When I was young, they used to call me Fat Murphy.” While on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Eddie Murphy shared a brief story about his friend Tracy Morgan, while doing a perfect impression of his fellow comedian. We’re just so happy to have Eddie making us laugh again.
