Awesome Ice Skating

Why you would want to glide around on skates made out of ice is anyone’s guess, but Works By Design got us to watch his video regardless. He started by testing various mixtures of water and binders for strength. After that, he fabricated custom metal blades and a special silicone ice mold. Our feet are freezing just looking at this thing.

This incredible footage shows athlete and Olympic gold medalist Kjeld Nuis breaking the world record for the fastest speed ice skating ever. He achieved his 103 km/h (64 mph) top speed skating on a frozen lake in Norway, inside a specially-designed enclosure to shelter him from wind resistance.

When you think of figure skating, Metallica isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. But Team USA ice dancers Oona and Gage Brown dispel that notion with this exceptionally precise performance choreographed to Nothing Else Matters, combining Metallica’s original metal ballad with a cover version by Marlisa.

We always thought that Ghost Rider preferred motorcycles, but apparently, he also can operate a Zamboni. Watch in amazement as this driver calmly drives his ice smoothing machine across the ice and out of the rink after it somehow caught on fire at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex.

Holland recently coined the term “straatsen” – a mashup of “straat” (street), and “schaatsen” (skating) – after ice covered the country’s roads, making them impassable. TasteLikePizza compiled this video of residents turning their frozen lemons into frozen lemonade.

We can think of not many ideas more insane than pulling yourself along the surface of a frozen lake using the tip of a working chainsaw as your propulsion. But that didn’t stop skier Erik Sunnerheim from giving it a try anyhow.

Passing by a cold, empty skate park can be so sad. It’s nice to see that Red Bull once again got some midwinter use out of one by blanketing it in ice and giving ice cross racers a chance to compete in a skill and style competition.
