To celebrate 70 years of Corvette, Chevrolet revealed the first hybrid-electric Vette, the 2024 Corvette E-Ray. The supercar pairs a 6.2L V8 with an electric motor for 655 hp, all-wheel drive, a 0-to-60 time of 2.5 sec, and a 10.5-sec quarter mile time. The prototype E-Ray dropped in at the Rink at Rockefeller Center to kick up some snow.
If you can get past the massive grille, the Concept XM looks pretty damned awesome on paper. This plug-in hybrid crossover combines a V8 with electric motors, producing 750 hp and 737 lb-ft. of torque. Its angular, origami design language offers a glimpse into the future of BMW styling. A production version is due by late 2022.
The sleek and powerful Ferrari 296 GTB features a hybrid rear-wheel drivetrain that produces 819 hp combined. It’s driven by a turbocharged V6 and motor unit which can launch the car from 0-to-62 mph in 2.9 seconds, towards a top speed of 205 mph. It also has a plug-in mode, which provides up to 15 miles of pure-electric driving.
Jeep’s most capable off-road SUV now comes in a plug-in hybrid. We spent a day driving the Wrangler 4xe on and off-roads around Austin, Texas, putting its powerful drivetrain to the test. Not only does the 4xe have 375hp and 470 lb-ft. of torque, it can drive up to 21 miles on pure electric power and does 0-to-60 in 6 seconds.
Building on their racing and road car experience, McLaren’s Artura is a supercar with a hybrid powertrain. It’s built on a carbon fiber architecture and weighs just 3303 lb. Its twin-turbo V6 and electric motor make 671 hp, launching the car from 0-to-62 mph in 3.0 sec and 0-to-124 mph in 8.3 sec, towards a top speed of 205 mph.
