Awesome Horses

This cozy and artful wool blend blanket from One of These Days celebrates America’s West with a scene of a lone cowboy and his horse making their way cross the plains in search of their next drink of water. The 49″ x 60″ blanket has a crochet-stitched edge, and a reverse print on the back.

We’ve always been fascinated by mechanical arcade games. Old Things Never Die shows off a vintage game where players placed bets on horses racing around in circles. It required extensive restoration work to fix its mechanism and return it to its former glory. It’s wonderful to see how fast it spins now.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course. But if you’ve ever watched an episode of Yellowstone, you know they can be dangerous and unpredictable. TierZoo offers its take on equines and their place in the animal kingdom. Despite their lack of horns or other pointy weapons, their kicks are formidable.

Hate it when work emails interrupt vacation? Thanks to Visit Iceland, you can go to their website to “out-horse” your out-of-office email replies to a real Icelandic horse. The clever tourism team “taught” three of the country’s unique native horses to type on a giant keyboard, resulting in messages like “wFwhxsqjnzgmsrqaaaa.”

In this soothing LEGO build video, Jason Alleman of JK Brickworks shows off another one of his awesome kinetic sculptures. Like his others creations, it can be driven by crank or a motor. If you want one for your own desktop, he’s posted the build instructions and a link to buy the bricks on his website.

Arriving just in time to celebrate the Triple Crown, we have here this handsome Giant Horse River Tube. This loyal companion is made of heavy duty vinyl and includes a mesh seat, cup holder and grab rope. String a few together for your own water races.

Designer Kevin Finn’s equine playing cards feature abstract line-art images of horses, with jockeys as the jokers. The images shown here are just design prototypes. The finished cards will be printed by the United States Playing Card Company, with gold metallic details.

While out checking on her horses, UK farmer Lisa Brown found herself turned into a human pillow by a equine named “Jimmy.” We’re not sure Lisa will be getting any rest, but Jimmy seems quite content with his new headrest.

Not to take anything away from this year’s Triple Crown winner, but this clip from The Wall Street journal pits American Pharoah against 1973’s winner, Secretariat to show us one instance where the past was greater than the present.

Artist Andy Scott has spent seven years building this pair of steel horse heads, called The Kelpies, along the Forth & Clyde canal in Falkirk, Scotland. They measure 98+ feet-tall, but smaller versions of his horses can be found around the globe.

(NSFW: Lyrics) While it’s not quite a miniature pony, this dancing horse actually exists. Though we’re pretty sure this isn’t the music that was playing during the World Equestrian Games back in 2006. Or maybe it was?

This horse needs help to hold the guitar and its frets, but it makes a noble effort to strum all by itself. Now keep in mind we didn’t title this post “Horse Plays Guitar Well” for a reason.

Is there any better combination than horses, a helicopter, a mustache and the beach to inspire a laugh-inducing, kick ass stunt, just like this one on Season one of MacGyver? Nope. Well played, sir.

How many times do you see this driving down the highway? How about never. Yep, that’s a horse in the back seat of a car. How’d they get him in there? We don’t know. At least he’s not driving.
