Awesome Groot

Engineers at Walt Disney Imagineering have been working on animatronic robots which can walk on their own for a while now. As part of their Project Kiwi initiative, they created a walking version of Baby Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy. He needs a safety tether at present but is still an impressive creation.

LoreCraft creates intricate sculptures, and his latest build is as good as any we’ve seen. We were glued to our video player for all 9 minutes as he turned a blob of clay and sticks into a detailed replica of our favorite arboreal hero. Bonus points for the Marvel-inspired titles.

Groot is made from wood and leaves, so it only makes sense that a sculpture of Baby Groot should be made from the real deal. Lignum started out with the stump of an old catalpa tree, and proceeded to sculpt it into Guardians of the Galaxy’s adorable little dude.
