Wood isn’t the first material that comes to mind when it comes to its flexibility. In this video from the KURAHITO Craft channel, the Japanese woodworker shows how it’s possible to make bendy forms from wood by cutting alternating notches into a board using a table saw. To make things more interesting, he carved curves into the board beforehand.

Researchers from the MIT Media Lab developed a method for 3D printing that creates soft and stretchable textiles. The process takes advantage of a defect that can occur in 3D printing – underextruded thermoplastics. By precisely controlling this behavior, they were able to make thin, flexible fabrics with custom patterns.
