Awesome Fishing

In recent years, the term “catfishing” has come to mean the act of taking on a fictitious persona that’s very different than they actually are. That’s exactly what happened to Lance Burgos and his son when they were fishing for actual catfish in St. Martinville, Louisiana.

(PG-13 Language) Catch cold glimpses of the rugged coastline in rural Newfoundland and watch the whirling drama unfold as two discordant sets of fishermen attempt cooperation during a heavy storm, in Justin Oakey’s Flankers.

We actually never knew that piranhas were worth catching, but apparently some people eat them. This video from Brazil shows a really easy way to catch the little carnivores – though we’d be afraid they’d take off our hand.

A couple of fishermen show off their giant dorado catches when somebody else decides that the big green fish is their lunch and not for human consumption. We also like the stoic pelican just hanging out in the bottom right.

Fishermen in the Dominican Republic were attempting to catch, weigh and release a marlin, when it panicked and jumped right into their boat. You really don’t want to be anywhere near a flying 350 pound fish with deadly spear.

We don’t know how this happened, because as soon as this video starts we immediately see an unlucky diver stuck in a Soviet Russian joke: a monkfish caught him. Fortunately he was able to get free from its massive mouth.

(NSFW: Language) These folks seem a lot less serious about fishing than the enthusiasts we saw a while ago, hence their response to their catch being stolen by a big ass shork shawk shakkk shark.

(NSFW: Language) These fishermen had the catch of a lifetime, with a 600lb marlin on the end of their line. Unfortunately, two tiger sharks had different thoughts about who should collect this bounty.

These Finnish divers head underwater to look for fish, capturing and sharing their adventures below the ice. It’s even more amazing once you realize where they’re standing. (Thanks, everyone!)

We always thought that sitting out on the ice, waiting for fish to bite sounded like a difficult way to get a meal. But in Canada, they take their ice fishing seriously (and perhaps a bit too literally).

We’re eagerly anticipating another fascinating, adrenaline-and-Bering-Sea-soaked season of Deadliest Catch starting April 11, even though our favorite Captain Phil is no longer with us. RIP Phil.
