Awesome Dominoes

Hevesh5 and 18 friends spent 7 days setting up this lengthy maze of dominoes for Zeal Credit Union’s Incredible Science Machine event, and set three US domino records along the way: largest domino field, largest domino structure, and largest overall domino project.

Back in 2009, genius woodworker Matthias Wandel shared one of his childhood projects: a LEGO machine that laid out an evenly spaced row of dominoes. He recently upped the ante and remade the machine out of wood. Skip to 5:23 in the video for the finished machine.

Domino fanatic Kaplamino’s latest run doesn’t feature thousands of tiles falling down, but it does offer something pretty different – a series of chain reactions which kick off using matches, fireworks, and other pyrotechnic devices – and a bit more waiting around than usual.

Australian Domino Art turns out the lights as they knock over a bunch of phosphorescent dominoes. In all, they used over 20,000 dominoes to create all of the glowing displays. (Thanks Marcel!)

The Domino King creates amazing pixel art images using thousands of colorful dominoes. His YouTube channel is packed with awesome constructions from Rick and Morty to Sonic the Hedgehog to Five Nights at Freddy’s. But his best creation so far is from Super Mario World.

While there have certainly been more dominoes felled at once, what makes Hevesh5’s latest feat special is that all 15,524 dominoes were lined up in a single, one-domino-wide line. It took 2 days to set up, and just about 5 minutes to fall into the unofficial record books.

Domino fanatic FlippyCat placed a 360° camera and binaural microphones in the middle of a room, then stacked a circle of 4,200 dominoes around them. The surround audio as the dominoes drop is just as mesmerizing as watching them all crash around you.

Domino fanatic Hevesh5 put together a bunch of fun displays using dominoes that have different colors on the front and the back, then messes with our heads by playing the whole thing backwards. In this second video, she shows you can make your own.

A wonderfully satisfying video in which a set of bricks were carefully placed, then knocked over like dominoes. But be sure to stick around until the last brick falls for an unexpected turn of events. Here’s a graphical explanation of what happened.

Last time we checked in with domino dominator Lily Hevesh, she had created the most amazing spiral setup we’ve ever seen. While this setup isn’t nearly as spectacular, it’s still fun to try and figure out which domino route will be fastest. Place your bets!

YouTuber Hevesh5 spent a total of 25 hours putting 15,000 dominoes together in one massive and surprisingly sturdy triple spiral structure designed to fall inside out. Check out a reverse one-shot take here.

22 folks from Austria, Germany and Switzerland spent four days constructing this massive chain reaction that broke records for most disc cases toppled in a domino fashion (10,266), largest stick bomb (40,910 sticks) and longest domino wall: (131.69 ft, 42,173 dominoes).

Domino master FlippyCat uses his dominoes in a different way than normal, instead of just knocking them over, he uses stop-motion animation to make a gigantic working Etch-a-Sketch. Then he knocks them over.

Joe hand fabricates some of the most amazing dominoes we’ve laid eyes on. From the ones filled with shredded U.S. currency to the anodized aluminum pieces, they’re all quite special. Joe also offers custom engraving for logos and signatures.

Expert domino setter-upper FlippyCat created this maze of dominoes which form a tree and its roots. What makes the small display impressive is how he managed to set up all of those overlapping branches without knocking anything over.

If you think it’s difficult to stand regular dominoes without accidentally knocking them over, just try doing it with ones that measure 1/80th the size. Sinners Domino Entertainment carefully set up and then toppled 2,000 of the little buggers.

Austrian Domino Art and students from HLUW Yspertal built an elaborate chain reaction domino course made of over 100,000 dominoes. It ended with the crash of their record-setting 20ft.-tall structure made of 11,465 dominoes.

It’s not the most massive or the quickest domino show we’ve ever seen, but YouTubers Hevesh5 and Millionendollarboy seemed to pull off every trick in the domino falling book in one go. Well, almost all of them.

A domino trick in which the dominoes are replaced with liquid-filled shot glasses. In all, 2,103 glasses tumbled, but that’s no longer the record. Turns out Señor Frogs Nassau did it with 4,107 glasses later – but it wasn’t as pretty.

You’ll have to give up the next 10 minutes of your life to watch this, but you’ll quickly be hypnotized by the colorful dominoes falling over to break the previous record for most dominoes ever in a spiral – and that’s just the start.

To promote its 2013 Summer Reading Program, the Seattle Public Library set up what they hope is the world’s longest chain of book dominoes. Redditor agentpebble says it took them 7 hours and 5 attempts to make all 2,131 books to fall.

While it’s surely done with CGI animation, we’re still impressed by Aatma Studio’s epic domino display that looks like it was made with 10,000 iPhone 5s. Though it would have been even cooler with $2+ million worth of actual iPhones.

A new way to keep your cat occupied now that he’s grown tired of the laser pointer. All you need is an open space and a few thousand dominoes. We wonder how this cat would do in this spiral.
