Awesome Daihei Shibata

Artist and animator Daihei Shibata has a little fun in this series of playful vignettes for Japan’s NHK broadcast network. Each of the 30-second spots fools around with NHK’s typographic logo and incorporates an adorable anthropomorphic television.

Filmmaker daihei shibata presents a satisfying compilation of images that start out with two polarized objects, then fill in the gradations between them to produce a smooth transition. The video expresses how blurring boundaries can expose complexity, diversity, and richness of information.

Daihei Shibata created a series of visual illusions for the Japanese TV program Design Ah!, in which each scene starts off with an ordinary premise, but its outcome is very different than what you might expect. Catch the first two videos here.

Daihei Shibata’s short film is brilliant in its simplicity. It features two images – a line graph and an actual object. The graph then updates to reflect the state of the real world item. The accompaniment by Fukushima Yasuharu and the EX NOVO Chamber Choir is the icing on the cake.

A battery that lights up. An outlet that’s a plug. A pill that’s a screw. Daihei Shibata has an ongoing series of short VFX videos that show ordinary objects with a twist. They originally aired in a Japanese industrial design show for kids called Design Ah!
