Awesome Convertibles

The new Mustang convertible gets all the same cool enhancements as the fastback version, and looks particularly brilliant in Ingot Silver with its top dropped. We can only imagine how good it sounds with that more powerful new 5.0L V8 and active exhaust.

We spent a few days behind the wheel of Alfa Romeo’s out-of-this-world 2-seat droptop, a beast of a sports car in a tiny package. Its 1.7L turbo 4 makes 237 hp, launching the lightweight car to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, and it sounds great doing it. Read our review on 95octane.

The top-of-the-line TT gets a new aluminum 5-cylinder engine which pushes out 400 hp, launching the Coupe to 62mph in 3.7s and the Roadster in 3.9s. All-wheel drive and a fixed rear wing are standard, and adaptive dampers and carbon ceramic brakes are available.

The new TT looks and drives better than ever, with impressive grip and cornering, a zippy 220 hp turbo 4 with 258 lb-ft. of torque, and a luxuriously appointed interior. Its cool 12.3″ “virtual cockpit” combines an instrument panel, infotainment and navigation displays in one.

A drop-top version of AMG’s powerful, yet sophisticated S65 Coupe. It rocks a 630 hp bi-turbo V12 capable of launching it to 62 mph in just 4.1s, and has heated seats, armrests, and neck vents to keep you toasty even with the top down on cool days.

The drop-top variant of McLaren’s already bonkers 675LT packs a 675hp twin-turbo V8, and manages to do 0 to 62mph in 2.9s and 0 to 124mph in 8.1, just a hair of a second slower than the coupe. Top speed is 203 mph, so gentlemen, hold onto your hats.

Sharing its bones with the Mazda MX-5 Miata, the 124 Spyder pays homage to FIAT’s roadster heritage. The Miata drives great, and FIAT’s styling looks great, so we have no complaints here. An added bonus: its 1.4L turbo 4 makes 24% more torque than Mazda’s engine.

The drop-top variant of the 488GTB gets the same 661hp, 3.9L turbo V8 as its roofed brother. It can do 0-to-62mph in just 3.0s, and 0 to 124 mph in 8.7. Top speed is 203 mph, and it sounds spectacular getting there.

The updated Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Roadster now has a 7-speed gearbox with paddle shifters, and its 572hp V12 gets it to a top speed of 201mph – though at that speed, the hair might rip out of your skull. More on 95octane.

MINI and coachbuilder Touring Superleggera knocked it out of the park with their collaborative concept roadster, blending the best of British and Italian automotive design. The tailfin and Union Jack tail lights are priceless. More on 95octane.

Leave it to the wizards at McLaren to build a convertible with virtually the same specs as its hard-top brother. The 650S Spider still goes 0-to-60 in 3.0 secs, and only weighs 88lbs. more. Though top speed is “only” 204mph, not 207.

The cabriolet hasn’t had the visual overhaul of its sedan brethren, but it has the advantage that it can drop its hardshell top in warmer climes. Powered by 3.5L 306hp V6, it hits 60 in a respectable 5.8 secs, and gets 27mpg (hwy).

A roadster variant of the curvaceous Spyker B6 Venator, powered by the same 375hp V6 mid-engine RWD drivetrain, and outfitted with ample amounts of extravagant leather trim and aircraft-inspired controls.

It’s been a long wait for Jaguar to release another 2-seater, since the E-type went away 40 years ago. The F-Type and F-Type S offer a 340hp or 380hp supercharged 3L V6 or a massive 495hp 5L V8.

Ripping the roof off the already sexy Zagato Coup̩, the drop-top version would let you speed down the highway with the wind in your hair Рif only you could buy this one-of-a-kind ride.

Strap your hat on before heading out in the the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse; the targa-topped model boasts a quad-turbo 1200 hp W-16 Super Sport engine and 255 mph top speed.

While you can’t get a Z06 convertible, this special edition drop-top is the next best thing, with the same 505hp LS7 V8 found on it’s powerful cousin, and weight-reducing carbon fiber parts.

We first saw the MINI Roadster in concept form, and now it’s going into production. We dig this go-kart inspired 2-seater soft-top and the available 211HP 1.6L turbo in the John Cooper Works edition.

Cadillac harkens back to the era when cars looked like boats with their luxurious Ciel convertible. Driven by a twin-turbo 3.6L V6 with hybrid electric power, it measures at over 203 inches long.
