Awesome Coldplay

Anthony Vincent never disappoints, once again showcasing his vocal and impressionist talents with a cover of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida — reimagined in the style of Queen. His Freddie Mercury-inspired vocals are solid, and the arrangement brings to mind Queen classics like Don’t Stop Me Now.

Filmmaker and musician Dan Mace performed the Coldplay song Clocks using clocks as his instruments. He started by modding a kalimba with clock hands for the melody and banged on broken clock parts to create the rhythm section. Now he should put everything back together while playing Fix You.

Isabel Garrett’s music video for Coldplay’s ALiEN HiTS/ALiEN RADiO fills our eyeballs with a patchwork of visuals from 28 talented filmmakers and animators. Part of the 44-minute film accompanying the album Moon Music, it weaves together hand-painted frames, stop-motion, live-action, and other techniques to complement the warm and enveloping track.

The Foggy Mountain Spaceship is known for performing popular songs on banjo. Their version of the Coldplay track Clocks seems incredibly well-suited to the twangy bluegrass instrument. They’re also the only musical group we know that plays prog rock on banjo.

Two bands we’d never picture on a double-bill would be Slipknot and Coldplay. But that didn’t stop musical mashup master Bill McClintock from pairing the unlikely groups, combining Viva la Vida and Psychosocial into a schizophrenic chant.

(PG-13: Language) If comedian Nish Kumar could be any other person on the planet, it would be Will Champion, the drummer from Coldplay. He explains his rationale in this hilarious standup routine about the beauty of being fabulously rich and powerful, yet totally anonymous.

Musician Luna Lee once again makes the strings of her gayageum sing, this time with an excellent cover version of Coldplay’s Y2K track Yellow. We’re always in awe of the nuanced vibrato she’s able to produce with her instrument.

Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland dropped by the NPR offices with a nine-member gospel choir, who provided backing vocals for soulful performances of “Cry Cry Cry,” “Viva La Vida,” “Broken,” a cover of Prince’s “1999,” and their 2019 track “Champion of the World.”

Look at the stars. Look how they shine for you. Musicians Marnie and Patrick Laird aka the Brooklyn Duo are back with another heartfelt performance, this time bringing their piano and cello talents to the Coldplay track Yellow. Even if the original didn’t give you the feels, this version surely will.

Cellist Vesislava Todorova turns in a heart-wrenching cover version of Coldplay’s 2000 hit Yellow that perfectly suits the mood of the track. Be sure to check out her YouTube channel for more fantastic performances, including Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game.

Seth Everman titled this video simply as: “When you try all the sounds and beats on your synth (while only playing coldplay – viva la vida).” His description couldn’t be more accurate. We want to run on the treadmill to the techno version.

(PG-13: Language) During a recent performance in Sydney, Australia, Chris Martin and the guys from Coldplay brought a little bit of their own holiday cheer with a charming original tune. And with that, we’ve filled our weekly quota of Australian Christmas songs.

During a recent Coldplay concert in New York, Michael J. Fox took to the stage and reprised his classic performance from Back to the Future. While Fox played electric guitar, Chris Martin took on vocal duties this time. Big love to MJF.

Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia’s video for Coldplay’s single combines visuals of real world settings filmed at dramatically different distances. The result is a surreal world in which soccer is played on a sponge, volcanoes spew popcorn, and babies fly on airplane wings.

Awesomer faves Postmodern Jukebox and Puddles Pity Party collaborated on this larger than life cover version of Coldplay’s 2008 hit Viva La Vida, led off by the inimitable vocal stylings of everyone’s favorite sad clown with the golden voice.

For the charity fundraiser Red Nose Day, Coldplay assembled the cast of Game of Thrones to create a Broadway (or West End) musical. NBC cut many of the funny bits for time, so here’s the full 12-minute version for your enjoyment.
