Awesome Choreography

David Chanishvili is a dancer with the Sukhishvili Georgian National Ballet. In order to perform their mix of folk dance, classical ballet, and modern dance, he and his fellow company members must possess incredible coordination, athleticism, and strength. Great Big Story offers a brief glimpse into their talents.

This short dance film by THÉORIZ pulls off some impressive visuals, given the fact that all of its effects were shot in-camera, with no green screen or post-production. They achieved their mixed reality illusion using motion tracking synchronized with real-time projected imagery. Behind the scenes here (turn captions on.)

While sheltering in place, Bay Area alt-folk group Thao & The Get Down Stay Down used the now ubiquitous videoconferencing service Zoom to create a music video for their track “Phenom”. But they didn’t just point webcams at their faces, and instead used the opportunity to do something truly creative with the medium.

If there’s one thing you can definitely do while stuck at home, it’s dance. We all have our own favorite moves, but most of them couldn’t hold a candle to the smooth-flowing choreography of dancer Poppin John, who wowed us with his colorful living room performance.

The members of Japan’s electro-pop band and dance crew World Order may have changed over the years, but they’ve still got amazing choreography, as is proven by their latest video, which includes some new moves, along with their crowd favorite robotic walk.

The dancers of Pyroterra Fire & Light show off one of their coolest props. The LED Cube FT is a large, but lightweight cube packed with 1368 RGB LEDs designed for stage performances. The collapsible cubes have a programmable chip on board for storing sequences and can be controlled remotely from up to 200 meters away.

The vibrant and upbeat music video for the song Kimi no Mikata by J-Pop act Kyary Pamyu Pamyu was shot in a single continuous take, using a combination of precise choreography and carefully-timed video footage played on an array of tablet screens.

A demonstration of four incredible LED-illuminated costumes created by high tech scenery and costume makers Stigma for EKRAN. While there’s more standing around and posing than dancing here, the costumes are the real star of the show.

When someone sends us a dance video, the moves are performed with legs and arms. Not so in this clip from StatusSilver, choreographed by XTRAP, which features a synchronized performance by three sets of hands. It’s like a Busby Berkeley musical, but for fingers.

This odd contraption by artist Peter William Holden uses a series of eight robotic arms which move fedoras in sync with a musical track. By the end, you’ll be imagining a group of invisible dancers wearing said hats. Also, we’re pretty sure we found their feet.
