Awesome Chewbacca

Everyone’s favorite Wookiee gets the LEGO kit he deserves. This 2319-piece model of Chewbacca is no little Minifigure. Nope, this guy stands an impressive 18″ tall and looks furry, thanks to the clever use of curved bricks. Chewie is wearing his bandolier and carries a Bowcaster to fire when he’s not close enough to rip his enemies’ arms out of their sockets.

We all know Chewbacca. But we don’t all know about his upbringing, why he carries a bowcaster, or how old he is. Looper delves into our Wookiee pal’s background and attempts to fill in some blanks about his life story – assuming you can count the Star Wars Holiday Special as canon.

Custom sculpture and display maker Tom Spina Designs was recently commissioned to create 50 life-size heads and sets of matching fur panels for Gentle Giant’s Chewbacca statues. Each head was meticulously handpainted and then given a precision hairdo.

Adam Savage likes to go to conventions undercover. For Silicon Valley Comic Con, he dressed as Chewbacca, complete with an awesomely annoying C-3PO strapped to his back. We also learned that Chewie must go through an awful lot of hairspray.

If Film Theory How It Should Have Ended is to be believed, Chewbacca played the long con. Over the decades, he’s used his limited screen time in Star Wars movies to piece together a holiday tune. One of those things that’s funnier the second time around.

Candace Payne’s gleeful video of her testing out her new Chewbacca mask has been seen over a 137 million times on her Facebook page alone. So it’s no wonder that The Gregory Brothers hopped on the bandwagon, and turned her unending joy into an equally upbeat little song.

The Verge recounts every time the big fuzzball opened his mouth and roared in the Star Wars saga so far, as he paved the way for such later masters of vocal discourse as Hodor and Groot.

For his latest track, Jonny Wilson aka Eclectic Method electronically manipulated the mighty roar of everyone’s favorite towering fuzzball, transforming the wookiee’s howls into a catchy EDM track. And if you don’t like it, Chewie might just pull your arms out of their sockets.

Despite his size, Chewabacca likes to hide out in the most unlikely of places. First we found him in a cabinet door, and now he’s inside this guy’s electric guitar. Chewie, is that you?

(NSFW: Language) A compilation of things that sound like Chewbacca, but aren’t Chewbacca – ranging from cats, to vacuum cleaners, to toilets, to a guy being tased. We always though Chewie sounded like this.

With a strap inspired by Chewie’s bandolier, this faux leather messenger bag has enough room for a MacBook Air or netbook, but not enough space for C-3PO. It’s what everyone on Kashyyyk is wearing.

Didn’t like seeing them drawn as Christopher Robin and Winnie? How about the more troublesome duo Calvin and Hobbes? It’s a lot easier to imagine Calvin as a reckless mercenary anyway.

We suspect the audio on this clip could be fake, but this guy claims his cabinet sounds just like Chewbacca when the door opens. If he’s not lying, it’s awesome. If he is, feed him to the Wampa.

You may or may not know this, but the big, furry Wookiee actually had lines. Thankfully, illustrator Doug Savage has taken it upon himself to document all of his dialog from the original Star Wars for us.
