Awesome Black Mirror

After Bandersnatch, we weren’t quite sure if and when we’d get more Black Mirror episodes, but on 6/5/19, Netflix will feed us junkies three new episodes of dark, dystopian goodness, as modern technology continues to wreak havoc on our lives.

(Gore, SPOILERS) ScreenPrism deconstructs the story and the various endings of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. It’s a story about itself, it’s a story about being a helpless consumer, and it’s a story about accepting that we can’t change the past.

In 1984, a young programmer begins to question reality while adapting a fantasy novel into a video game. Black Mirror‘s Bandersnatch is an interactive episode, letting you choose what happens to the characters and offering multiple endings.

The creators of Black Mirror were partly inspired by The Twilight Zone. In fact, as Lessons from the Screenplay points out, USS Callister is an updated version of a particular The Twilight Zone episode. He also points out the masterful efficiency of USS Callister‘s script.

(PG-13, SPOILERS) Wisecrack uses The Society of the Spectacle to summarize Black Mirror: social media and ads encourage us to subscribe to a commercialized and self-fulfilling form of validation, instead of acknowledging our individuality and imperfections.

(PG-13: Language) One of the most depressing and cynical, yet important TV series is coming exclusively to Netflix. The third season of Black Mirror will tackle the effects of technology on identity, privacy and more. Premieres 10/21/16.
