During Star Wars Celebration, a veritable army of robot builders got together in one room to let their R2-D2s, BB-8s, and other assorted droids meet each other. It’s like a dog park for droids, and it should be open every day of the year. Kudos to Michael McMaster for the video.
Angelo Casimiro wanted a replica of The Force Awakens’ rotund droid, but Sphero’s version wasnt’t big enough. Instead, he spent his Xmas break building his own full-size droid for just $120, with a paper-mâché beach ball body and an Arduino brain. More on Instructables.
While the sound effects are all wrong, we got a good chuckle from Reid Southen’s doctoring of this scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark, replacing the giant boulder with another round, rolly object. Also, he made this a year ago, so he had no idea what BB-8 sounded like yet.
