Awesome Ancient

We’ve seen alot of unusual instruments, but this is the first time we’ve come across the Cornu de Pompeii. Evidence of this G-shaped horn were found in the ruins of Pompeii, and María Ruíz and Abraham Cupeiro built a replica of it so we could hear what it might have sounded like. Listen to more here.

These artful playing cards from Montenzi feature imagery inspired by the ancient Roman tile floors. Their backs have tiled patterns, while their fronts reveal shapes and images with the well-worn look of millions of footsteps. They come in a greenish-grey classic edition and Purple and Teal limited editions. A three-color bundle is also available.

Allegory Goods designed this series of handcrafted pens and pencils which incorporate reclaimed woods that date back thousands of years. We’ve seen many weapon builds, but this is the first time we’ve encountered a macuahuitl replica. This Aztec weapon dates to the 10th century and consists of a wooden paddle with spikes around its edge. DiesInEveryFilm made one of these weapons from scratch using modern tools. His wife, Emma Caglar created the artwork.
