Awesome Alaska

Unless you score Business Class seats, it’s pretty hard to sleep on an airplane. That is, unless it’s this old Douglas DC-6 that’s been converted into a home. Tiny House Giant Journey visits with homeowners and flight trainers Jon and Stephanie, who turned the airplane into a 2 BR, 1 BA Airbnb with a kitchen, a wing deck, and a flight simulator in the cockpit.

No matter how many videos we see of the Aurora Borealis, we never get tired of watching this awe-inspiring natural phenomenon. To capture this impressive sequence, photographer Vincent Ledvina spent eight nights shooting more than 8000 photographs while staking out the skies over Fort Yukon, Alaska.

Most airplanes need a decent amount of runway, but there’s a class of planes known as STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) which don’t need much space at all. Thanks to strong headwinds, pilot Jon Bush was able to land this experimental SQ12 Super Cub on zero feet of runway along Alaska’s Knik River. Be sure to watch the takeoff video.

Inspired by the true story of Leonhard Seppala, Willem Dafoe and Julianne Nicholson star in this original movie about a man who sets off on a perilous journey across Alaska with his sled dogs to help bring home a cure for a deadly disease. Streaming on Disney+ 12/20/19.
