Awesome Action

Two foes beat each other senseless with every trope in the books in Alaska’s amusing short film packed with action, vibrant visual effects, and references to a wide variety of sci-fi, action, and fantasy films and TV shows. The only thing it’s missing is a post-credits sequence.

Described by one critic as a cross between Office Space and The Purge, Mayhem follows the story of a man (Steven Yeun) unjustly fired from his job who finds himself under quarantine at his office where everyone has been infected with a virus that makes them go insane.

Drop right in the middle of the Red Bull District Ride urban MTB freeride through Nuremberg, courtesy of a 360º camera mounted atop one of its rider’s helmets. We suggest watching it a few times from different angles, like backwards, or looking down on the guy’s helmet.

Alicia Vikander steps into Lara Croft’s battered tank top, jeans and boots. Coming in 2018, Tomb Raider is based on the video game’s awesome 2013 reboot. So we’re expecting to see Lara receive Jackie Chan levels of pain. With no saves and reloads.

(PG-13) Hot on the heels of Atomic Blonde comes Red Sparrow. Based on Jason Matthews’ eponymous spy novel, the movie stars Jennifer Lawrence as one of the products of a Russian program that trains girls to become wily and seductive secret agents.

Daredevil and adventure seeker Joseph Innes shares video footage of several death-defying paraglider runs as he skims precariously close to rocks, trees, and the ground as he heads down the side of a mountain at insane speeds.

Antonio Banderas plays an ex-special services vet desperate for work, and who ends up taking a job as a mall cop. The film quickly turns into Die Hard in a Mall when he must protect a young girl pursued by an army of gun-wielding baddies led by Ben Kingsley.

The cinematic trailer for Extinction, an upcoming action game clearly inspired by Attack on Titan. Battle colossal enemies using fully destructible environments and upgradable skills. The game will also have a horde mode and a level editor. Drops sometime in 2018.

Tom Cruise stars in this film based on the story of Barry Seal, an airline pilot who got wrangled into helping the CIA and DEA, and ends up running drugs and guns for Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel. From director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow).

A titan from the game Destiny stumbles onto its most horrific adversary yet – cute, cuddly, and deadly Care Bears. Freaking Rad’s video offers up cool weapons, comedy, cosplay, action, and VFX. (Thanks Grey!)

Riding your bike on a downhill mountain path is dangerous enough all on its own – hence the helmets and pads these guys are wearing. But this ride down a course in Slovakia provided an added source of peril – a bear. Thankfully, the killer animal gave up the chase rather quickly.

Who knows if it’ll translate to the big screen, but we’re excited to see Idris Elba as The Last Gunslinger, and Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black in this adaptation of Stephen King’s classic series of science fiction novels. Oh please, oh please let this be good.

The guys from Corridor have a little fun with shadowplay in this clip about a couple of graffiti artists who get more than they bargain for when they try to tag the wrong building. TL;DW: kids, don’t use spray paint.

Based on Vince Flynn’s secret agent novels about Mitch Rapp, who becomes a deadly secret agent to compensate for the fact that his name befits a stand-up comedian. Just kidding. Loved one dies, wants revenge, trains with Batman, walks away from explosions.

Woody Harrelson leads an army of humans hellbent on wiping out the apes, and Caesar must stand up and lead apekind into an epic battle for survival in Matt Reeves’ follow up to his excellent Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Opens 7/14/17. APES! TOGETHER! STRONG!

Corridor pokes fun at the action and gunplay from the John Wick saga, replacing his Heckler & Kochs and Glocks with NERF blasters, and bullets with foam darts. It’s a little slow at the start, but once the action and stunts gets going, it’s good fun.

(PG-13) Charlize Theron kicks large quantities of ass in this action flick about a killer MI6 agent who must take on a city filled with baddies. We’re excited to see stunt coordinator and director David Leitch behind the lens – he co-directed John Wick and is helming Deadpool 2.

(PG-13: Gore) Since we don’t speak Russian, we don’t understand what the song is about, but the sheer insanity of the events that play out make this one of the wildest music videos we’ve seen. The clip was directed by Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry and The Stampede)

It takes a minute to get to the action in this clip of rollerblader Grigoriy Usenko tearing up some MTB slopestyle ramps in the woods outside of Krasnodar, Russia. But you’ll want to watch those first 60 seconds too, packed with cool motion time-lapse footage of the nearby city.

The Buddhist monk Tang Sanzang continues his demon-slaying with frenemies Water Buffalo, Pig Demon and Monkey King in tow. Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back is the sequel to writer and director Stephen Chow’s 2013 hit.

Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Anthony Hopkins, and Ben Kingsley star in this action/romance about a man who gets involved with a group of drug dealers as their driver, and finds himself at odds with his new employers. Its director has little under his belt, but it’s got an A+ cast.

By capturing overhead shots with a drone, this amazing video provides a unique perspective compared to typical parkour and freerunning clips, transforming its acrobat, Ilko “Ill” Iliev into a the player in a top-down video game. It gets totally insane when the rappelling kicks in.
