Awesome Abarth

We spent a day at Autobahn Country Club outside of Chicago putting the 2019 FIAT 124 Spider Abarth and FIAT 500 Abarth through their paces, while honing our track skills with the Skip Barber Racing School. Both the cars and instruction made for a gearhead’s paradise.

Abarth pours its crazy sauce on the Miata-based FIAT 124 Spider. It packs a 170hp turbo 4, chassis reinforcements, a limited-slip diff, Brembo brakes, Bilstein dampers, an awesome exhaust note, and an anti-glare black hood, all without losing its 50/50 weight balance.

Alright, so Atomik Car’s 500 Abarth isn’t really on the moon, but with a 300 hp electric motor powered by LiFePO4 batteries good for a 0-60 of 5.6s, it’s as close to a rocket as it gets.

Fiat’s Abarth in-house tuners double the fun with the 500C and the Punto Evo, the former a semi-convertible with a 140 hp 1.4L turbo four and the latter with a turbo 165 hp 1.4L.
