An EV newcomer with a 325-mile range and 80% charge time of 20 minutes stole the LA International Auto Show, garnering the award for Top Sports Utility EV. Beating out brands including Lincoln and Rivian, the sleek Mullen Five crossover will be the first offering from California-startup Mullen Automotive, starting at $55,000.
It’s fast, zooming from zero to 60 in 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph. Its 95 kWh Lithium-Sulfur battery pack has lots of juice, providing five times more energy density than Lithium-ion counterparts. And it’s techy, featuring an intuitive “Persona” recognition system to ID the driver and automatically set preferences.
The sleek EV’s design is by Andreas Thurner, the creative eye behind the exterior of the Rolls Royce Ghost. To boost buyer confidence in the USA-made cars, Mullen will offer a warranty of 60 months and 60,000 miles, plus a 10-year warranty on the battery.
