Steel made with Damascus techniques produces some of the most beautiful blades. But most Damascus steel we’ve seen has an abstract, organic pattern. Bladesmith Lew Griffin shows how he created a Damascus chef’s knife with controlled swirl patterns, dictated by the shape of a 3D-printed mold he added to his steel tube before forging and hammering.
