Dark ‘n’ Stormy Day

Written by Vic Arkoff | June 1, 2020

One of the world’s favorite cocktails is the classic Dark ‘n Stormy, created in 1920s Bermuda when British Navy officers used Goslings Black Seal Rum to spike their seasickness cure: ginger beer. A century later, the drink gets its own holiday; June 9, 2020 is the first official Dark ‘n’ Stormy Day. Celebrate with the official recipe.

It’s not a proper Dark ‘n Stormy cocktail if it’s missing the key ingredient: Goslings Black Seal Rum, a unique distillation made since the early 1900s when the Gosling family began selling their rum in empty champagne bottles resealed with black wax. Legend has it that the cocktail got its name when a fisherman noted that the drink had the “color of a cloud only a fool or dead man would sail under.”Dark ‘n’ Stormy Day
