Awesome Talking Heads

Lorde provides her take on Talking Heads’ cover of Al Green’s Take Me to the River. It’s chill and minimalist, but you can still chicken bop to it. The single is part of A24’s upcoming tribute album, which will feature covers of songs that Talking Heads played in their 1984 concert fil Stop Making Sense. About the only thing Marshall Mathers and David Byrne have in common is that they both had hit songs. But what if the Talking Heads had written a song about Eminem’s career and his rhyming abilities? It might have sounded something like this track by Nick Lutsko. So put your orange door hinge in storage and hit play now.

Same as it ever was… or maybe not. The Talking Heads track Once in a Lifetime is a true classic. Ross Hudson wanted to know what the vocals from the 1980 track might sound like without the music and posted this clip of David Byrne’s isolated voice, which gives the song a whole new texture.

Laser Time dug up this juicy nugget from an old episode of Muppets Tonight, in which Kermit donned a giant suit and proceeded to sing (er talk) a cover of Talking Heads’ classic Once in a Lifetime. You must stick around for Statler and Waldorf at the end. Same as it ever was.
