Awesome Super Mario Bros

We’ve heard a million and one versions of the Super Mario Bros. theme music, but it’s still fun to discover a new take on the classic video game tune. The very talented Ukrainian duo B&B Project performed a live run-through of World 1-1, with the button accordion providing the music, and the bandura creating the sound effects.

Nintendo started out making playing cards, so it makes sense that they might occasionally dip their toe back in those waters. This official deck features images inspired by the game levels in various Super Mario games. Apparently, they’re a little thin compared to regular playing cards, so they’re best as a collector’s item.

Nintendo fans, dress up your fridge with your own custom level from Super Mario Bros. This set comes with 80 8-bit magnets from the Mushroom Kingdom, including bricks, pipes, gold coins, Koopas, Goombas, Mario, and Luigi. Just look out for those Piranha Plants.

Fans of Nintendo’s classic 8-bit game will love this hand-drawn animation, which lovingly replicates World 1-1 of Super Mario Bros. Kisaragi Hutae 6 combined paper cutouts and line drawings in his notebook to create this awesome little stop-motion short.

Take a trip to a secret world of caffeine with ThinkGeek’s officially-licensed mug is a 3D version of the warp pipe from the original Super Mario Bros. game. It even includes the floor tiles as a base. The mug can hold up to 15oz and is made of ceramic.

Beatboxer 80Fitz presents mouth sound versions of classic Nintendo music, including tracks from Super Mario Bros., Yoshi’s Island, Super Mario World, Kirby’s Dream Land, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Classical pianist Martin Leung dropped by the University of Michigan’s Britton Recital Hall to perform a medley of tracks from the world of Mario Bros., kicking things off with the classic Super Mario Bros. theme – and just to show off, he did that first bit blindfolded. The first few levels of Super Mario Bros. are pretty easy as platformers go, but if Mario had a disability that confined him to a wheelchair, it might be a bit more difficult. This video envisions a redesigned World 1-1 where ramps and elevators make getting around easier.

Game developer Nimso Ny presents his vision for a remaster of Super Mario 64. He made all of the models, textures, and animations from scratch. It covers only the castle area, but it’s so well made, we’d love to see the whole game. Windows users can download it here.

Using an array of effects pedals, musician Nathan Navarro was able to replicate not only the familiar theme music, but the in-game sounds from Super Mario Bros. World 1-1 using his bass guitar.

We can’t imagine how many hours it took the guys from juggling troupe Synchronicity to create this stop-motion Super Mario Bros. tribute video, created entirely by rotating the faces of hundreds of Rubik’s Cubes. Though this isn’t exactly the first time they’ve done this.

Nintendo’s endless runner is as polished and innovative as other Mario games. Super Mario Run simple tap and hold mechanic is fresh and fun. It also has asynchronous multiplayer and a kingdom-building minigame. The initial stages are free, but it’s $10 to play the full game.
