Awesome Skiing

The Trikke Skki is like an unpowered snowmobile, great for skiing downhill. It’s a lot easier to use and is more convenient than skis because you don’t need to strap skis on. Just get on and ski down.

At around 0:50 of Sverre Liliequist’s Big Mountain run at the Swatch Skiers Cup, a sizable patch of snow breaks off and threatens to engulf him. But Sverre ain’t Sweet Brown; he got time for that.

He’s not the Silver Skier, but Norwegian PK Hunder did launch his phone from his pocket during an X Games Big Air practice run only to have it meet back with its master owner at the bottom of the hill.

We are loving these big twirly drawings that were made with footprints in new snow by artist Sonja Hinrichsen and 5 volunteers at Rabbit Ears Pass in Colorado. Watch a gorgeous vid of it here.

Skier Josh Dueck suffered a catastrophic injury in 2004, breaking his back, leaving him a paraplegic. Through sheer perseverance, Josh has come back to do the world’s first backflip on a seated ski rig.

The other skiers will swoon and be jealous as you swoosh down the slopes in the Beardski, a fleece and neoprene ski mask offered with a variety of attached, foot long beards. (Thanks Ben!)

We love POV vids as much as the next guy, but usually they’re filled with glorious stunt shots. Here, we get footage of skier who fell off a cliff while wearing a GoPro helmet cam. And yes, he’s OK.

If skiing wasn’t dangerous enough on its own, wait til you get a load of Sergei Khvalin, and his propeller-powered skis, which put an extra 25MPH of wind at his back as he takes to the slopes.

The ultra-light Audi Carbon Ski concept is coming soon; the skis have a wooden core sandwiched by layers of aluminum and titanium and covered in carbon fiber, making them more rigid and agile.

Antoine Montant, the world’s leading speed flyer (a mix of skiing, paragliding and sky diving), pulls off the first-ever speed ride, gliding some floaty cool moves along the old cable car line in Chamonix.

Sure, it’s probably not the safest thing you could do, but this madman had the cojones to ski down New York’s Park Avenue at a rather insane 40mph. Awesome, but don’t get any funny ideas.
