Awesome Shadows

Shadow Ace wowed the judges and audience on America’s Got Talent Season 18 but failed to make the finals. He made the cut on the show’s 2024 Fantasy League, and we think he deserves top price for his immense shadow puppetry talent, as demonstrated in this spirited performance of A$AP Ferg’s and Nikki Minaj’s Plain Jane.

This fantastic short film by Fabrice Mathieu tells the tale of a shadow who finds himself frustrated with the actions of his wearer and decides to do something about it. Told using black-and-white footage from more than 60 films, the story unfolds much like a classic film noir, with plenty of action and intrigue.

This unique indie game from Extra Nice challenges players to move through an isometric 3D environment by moving and jumping only in the shadows. It combines elements of platformers and puzzle games with a unique line-art aesthetic. Coming to PC, Mac, Linux, Playstation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox.

The guys at ThunderDomes are in the business of building geodesic domes. But they also make some nifty LED lamps, which use 3D printing and cast resin structures to throw dramatic shadows onto walls, ceilings, and floors. They come in a variety of designs, with our favorite being the golden ratio spiral pattern.

In tribute to the release of The Force Awakens, pop artist Red Hong Yi created a series of sculptures which look like disjointed, almost random objects, but when illuminated at just the right angle, they cast shadows of iconic images from the Star Wars universe.
