Awesome Penguins

Ricoh’s unusual Penta-X robot set a new world record for the most robot jumps in one minute. This waddle of five of conjoined penguinbots jumped rope 170 times in a row, and charmed their way into our hearts at the same time. Of course they have a long way to go to beat this human.

A hilariously weird video in which 11,000 penguins take on 4,000 Santa Clauses, courtesy of the upcoming game Epic Battle Simulator. As insane as it is, what’s truly impressive is the sheer number of characters on screen at once, all using an off-the-shelf PC and graphics card.

As desperately as this little guy tries to flap his wings, he’s not going anywhere. Seems like a good setup for a Dreamworks animated feature – except in that one, he finally manages to fly by strapping himself to a toy plane.

Wildlife photographer John Downer was kind enough to share this cute and hilarious footage from the BBC/Discover program Penguins – Spy in the Huddle. The snowball cam is pretty classic too.

A flock of gentoo penguins does their best to make the vertical leap from the water onto the tricky surface of a huge iceberg in Antarctica – we had no idea they could spring out of the water like that.

We used to think that penguins were the cutest creatures. Then we were reminded they have a dark side too, as is demonstrated by the little bugger on the left and his evil ways.

Dogs may think they have cornered the market on fetching stuff, but they might face some stiff, winged competition – assuming penguins some day become popular house pets.

Penguins are known for being charming, but we had no idea Chilly Willy could be so devious too. This particular guy goes around stealing rocks from the nests of other birds while they’re not looking.

Penguins are so adorable, aren’t they? What this guy doesn’t realize when he approaches this particular penguin is more likely related to Oswald Cobblepot than to Happy Feet.

A bunch of penguins pop by for a visit, when they hear it’s feeding time and head for the pond. At least most of them do. Somebody, take that little dude under their wing and show him the ropes.

There’s a rumor that planes flying over the heads of penguins makes them fall over and unable to right themselves, causing mass casualties. Russia Today’s reporters get to the bottom the story.

While it’s more than likely it took a pair of penguins to pull off this stunt, we like to think it was one insanely fast penguin darting through the water. Don’t blink, or you might miss it.

We’re not quite sure how this penguin at Boulders Beach in South Africa would survive if he missed a step in this death defying jump; fortunately we don’t have to worry about it. Awwwws all around.

We’re not sure exactly what this little penguin is doing, but he certainly is jolly. The other penguins probably think he’s a spaz, but to us, he’s our latest internet hero.

Okay, now that we’ve gotten your attention, these penguins aren’t exactly the most acrobatic. But they do charm the hell out us as they try to figure out how to navigate the most minimal of obstacles.
