Awesome Mashups

The Dark Knight has a long and troubled history with freaks dressed like clowns, so it’s no wonder that he would want to take down IT’s Pennywise the clown when he comes to torment Gotham. Adeel of Steel made it happen with this well-executed mashup trailer.

The whole idea of sitcom laugh tracks make us cringe. Do we really need to be told when something is funny? Regardless, hit TV shows continue to do it. Owen Cooper decided to see if it would be any better if he swapped the “live studio audience” with Ricky Gervais’ laugh.

(Gore) Filmmaker and editor Antonio Maria Da Silva pays tribute to two masterpieces of cinema – Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, and Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West. The result is a crazy tense scene that had us on the edge of our seats the entire time.

Despite the odds against a successful outcome, musical mashup artist DJ Cummerbund’s latest track perfectly combines Owl City’s Fireflies with Green Day’s Basket Case, with a dash of Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise tossed in for good measure.

Fabrice Mathieu mashed up the opening sequence from Raiders of the Lost Ark with footage from Star Wars universe, making the daring archaeologist take on evil Jar-Jars, and all manner of nasties to recover the C-3PO idol. The trash compactor creature was a nice touch.

(PG-13: Language) Zveki put together this fantastic mashup of music from Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, and The Weeknd. The track blends together Starboy, In the Air Tonight, and They Don’t Care About Us, resulting in They Don’t Care About the Starboy in the Air.

After wowing us with his Folsom Pinball Blues, Puddles Pity Party is back with another awesome combo track, seamlessly melding Foo Fighters’ My Hero with John Lennon’s Imagine into an entirely new song. Puddles is our hero.

We can think of few stranger combinations than Hansen’s MMMBop and The Ramones’ Blitzkrieg Bop, yet somehow the masterful DJ Cummerbund mixed them up like creamy peanut butter and rich milk chocolate – with a dash of Slug and a pinch of Cotton Eye Joe.

Darth Blender mixed up footage from the old Saturday morning Super Friends cartoon series with the audio from the trailer for Justice League, and it works perfectly. In fact, we’d much rather watch this than another dark and depressing Zack Snyder flick.

The ever inventive Ithaca Audio modified a 1920’s Remington Portable typewriter into a touch-sensitive MIDI controller. Then they used the space where the paper would go as a projection screen to create a unique audiovisual experience. So yes, the video is in real-time.

With a little editing and some upbeat music and narration, CineFix turned The Silence of the Lambs into a happy romantic comedy, proving yet again that we can never trust what we see in trailers. The only thing it’s missing is a grand wedding between Clarice and Hannibal.

According to a 2004 interview with Wired, Will Smith was offered the role of Neo in The Matrix, but turned down the part. Now, thanks to The Unusual Suspect, we know what that movie might have looked like. While we’d miss Keanu, we would have loved this too.

Puddles Pity Party managed to mash up two unlikely tunes into one, combining the Johnny Cash classic Folsom Prison Blues with The Who’s Pinball Wizard. We’re not sure why it works, but Puddles always does a good job hypnotizing us with his voice.

A oddly perfect mashup of the Twisted Sister classic We’re Not Gonna Take It with the Blind Melon hit No Rain, and a couple of other ’90s alt tunes for good measure. Not only does DJ Cummerbund deftly intertwine the music, but their videos as well.

(PG-13: Language) AnimalRobot perfectly synced up Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated so Shaggy, Fred, Velma, Daphne, and Scooby are now singing Anderson .Paak’s dance jam Come Down. And we thought they were blazing, not drinking in the Mystery Machine.

If you’ve ever seen Vanilla Sky, you know there’s a scene at the end where Tom Cruise takes a dive off the edge of a skyscraper. YouTuber DrMachakil seized on the opportunity, and decided that Tom should take a trip through a few other films on the way down. (Thanks Rob!)

“Tom is not as terrible as he appears.” Once upon a time, there was a young witch-in-training named Hermione, who fell in love with a half-blood orphan. PistolShrimps used muggle magic to weave the finest of fan fiction.

YouTube channel Sync Fu was designed with a single purpose – to combine kung fu and action scenes with wildly out of place music. We’re not sure why it works, but it often does. Ouf favorite is Casshern vs. Mr. Roboto, but Lone Wolf and Cub vs. In The Air Tonight is perfect too.

YouTuber Grant Woolard is back with another classical mashup cover. Featuring 52 of your great-great-grandpappy’s jams from the OGiest of OG beatmakers such as Beethoven, Liszt, Strauss and Sousa.

“Giant Baby Monster cannot be stopped by man, but only with another monster! The spirits of combat demand it is so!” CineFix replaced the King of Monsters with baby Adam from Honey I Blew Up the Kid. Let. Him. Nap.

(PG-13: Language) DJ Flipboitamidles mashed up C418’s remix of the Stranger Things title theme with The Weeknd and Daft Punk’s megahit Starboy, resulting in a more textured darkwave track. The lyric video is dope too.

(PG-13: Language) What happens when a strange and unidentified alien lifeform lands on our planet? You send in the big guns to figure out what they’re saying. Ochre Jelly turns in a hilarious mashup of the sci-fi flick Arrival with one of the silliest memes of the past year.

Both Dawn of the Dead and Paul Blart: Mall Cop take place in shopping malls, so it’s certainly plausible that the characters might have run into each other. Digital Spectrum Studios imagines that Blart had to use his mad Segway skills to take on the zombie horde.
