Awesome Fan Films

(PG-13: Language) YouTuber tiarawhy spent nearly two months animating the Rick and Morty reading of the infamous court transcript of a judge losing his composure against a rowdy defendant. What we’d have given to be the court stenographer that day.

Erasmus Brosdau and his friends have been working on this Warhammer 40k fan film for about 6 years, and the end is nearly in sight. This is the first 8 minutes of the short, introducing us to the cyber-gothic world and its main character, a young and cocky Inquisitor.

To celebrate 30 years since James Cameron’s classic Alien sequel, editor Zach Prewitt created this awesomely updated take on its trailer, which makes the 1986 film look as exciting as any big blockbuster on screen today, if not more so.

What doesn’t work for one Star… actually works well with another Star. YouTuber Matthew Longua tried the Star Trek Beyond tactic, mashing up Beastie Boys’ Sabotage with the trailer for Rogue One, which is actually about sabotage.

Animator Pascal Blais enlisted the help of his friends to make this fan trailer for an animated adaptation of The Incal, the classic sci-fi comic book series by author Alejandro Jodorowsky and illustrator Moebius.

Chisel Pixel’s awesome fan film offers up action, drama, and excitement, all without spending the kind of dollars Michael Bay does. Inspired by the ’80s Transformers TV series and created by Lior Molcho and a group of Transformers cosplayers. Be sure to watch the BTS video.

Elite Geek dug up this brilliant and hilarious low-budget Star Wars fan film from 1990, directed by Itami Rose. The literally handmade Super 8 film recreates scenes from A New Hope, shot entirely with hands in place of spaceships. (Thanks Jeremy!)

Netflix is turning Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events into a series. In anticipation, fan Eleanora Poe created this short that captures the spirit of Daniel Handler’s books wonderfully. We’d be happy if this were the title sequence.

The latest installment of Rob Pratt’s animated fan film series features Flash Gordon and his companions meeting Ming the Merciless for the first time. This made us realize that Krieger is a dead ringer for Zarkov.

Harris Loureiro spent six months making this stop-motion Transformers fan film, using nothing more than mech toys, cardboard, campy rock music and cartoon voice acting. Michael Bay could learn a thing or two from Harris.

Galactic Battles is an upcoming fan film that combines characters and objects from Star Trek, Star Wars, Mass Effect and Halo. The film will even have Commander Shepard’s male voice actor Mark Meer reprising his role.

YouTuber Alex Luthor throws in his take on a sci-fi matchup that’s been discussed and will be discussed billions of times. If J.J. Abrams doesn’t screw up Episode VII, he’s going to be a freakin’ god among geeks.

Fence Post Productions‘ fan film that pokes fun at the endless wait for the next Half-Life game, as an aging Gordon Freeman is left alone with nothing to do. VALVE, can we just have this game already? You know you’d sell a squillion copies.

Before you have a full-on nerdgasm, this isn’t a real film, but a fan edit by MR8866 & Alex Luthor (nice name), which envisions a universe in which intellectual property rights mean nothing and all comic book characters could freely roam.

When the Pentagon needed to deal with an informant gone rogue, they asked the CIA for a team soldiers. They got one name: Sam Fisher. It’s a cheesy reboot, but Atomic Productions’ fan short film is as polished as it gets.

This slick fan-made mini-series follows Dick Grayson after he abandons Batman and Gotham, and becomes Nightwing, now living in the city of Bludhaven, and facing off with evildoers like Deathstroke. Premieres 9/29/14 on YouTube.

The work of Hayao Miyazaki is some of most brilliant animation and storytelling ever to grace the screen. Film buff Alexandre Gasulla created this retrospective from such films as My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away.

Daft Punk’s Give Life Back to Music is a great track, but its official music video leaves a little to be desired. Thankfully, Bitter Strike! Cartoons created their own fan-made music video that lives up to Daft Punk’s musical vision.
