Design studio Animade shares one of their fun little projects. Robot & The Robots is a computer animated short film about a band of musical instruments that play themselves. Watch them perform their (only) song, Robot_Song_03.mp3.

In Pixar’s Onward, the world of fantasy creatures has become modern and urbanized. Two elf brothers – voiced by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt – find themselves embarking on a quest to discover magic in their mundane world. Premieres 3/6/20.

Scientists from Samsung’s Moscow-based AI Research Center recently showed off “Few-Shot Adversarial Learning” tech, which can generate talking head videos from just a handful of still images, and a source video of another head. It’s so impressive, they even made the Mona Lisa talk.

Next top model? How about an army of free and tireless ones? A Japanese company called DataGrid claims it has created a way to automatically generate whole body models of people who don’t exist. These virtual models can be given a variety of poses and clothing.

While it may be a while before we have video games with truly photorealistic graphics, Quixel’s eyepopping real-time cinematic that shows off the power of Unreal Engine 4 using real-world scans of Iceland, combined with CG models. Watch in 4K if you can.

Supinfocom Rubika animation student Lorraine Desserre’s short film revolves around a simple premise – a praying mantis ingests something strange, and goes on a crazy hallucinogenic trip. A short, sweet, and entertaining clip melding traditional and CG styles.

Sava Zivkovic’s computer animated short film follows an alien creature who must deliver a mysterious object back to its home. The story only scratches the surface of the mystery, but the mood it sets is incredibly captivating. Go behind the scenes with its creators here.

NASA Goddard released this beautiful and moving video of data captured by its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, rendered as a digital 3D model, and accompanied perfectly by Claude Debussy’s Clair de Lune, which translates to “moonlight” in English.

Smash works inside a locomotive, powering the engine with his partner Grab. He’s tired of doing the same thing over and over again, and more importantly if being literally tied down to his job. So when he sees an opportunity to escape, he doesn’t hesitate.

Take a journey to the outer reaches of space in Teun van der Zalm’s short film, which is packed with 10 meditative minutes of beautiful (and completely fake) images of cloud, gas, and dust formations which were computer simulated to emulate the birth of stars.

Alvaro Gracia Montoya of MetaBallStudios likes to demonstrate the relative sizes of various objects. In their latest video, they start out with a 1.4″ tall paleolithic statue all the way up to India’s colossal 787 foot-tall Statue of Unity. And here we thought Mount Rushmore was huge.

Game developer Nimso Ny presents his vision for a remaster of Super Mario 64. He made all of the models, textures, and animations from scratch. It covers only the castle area, but it’s so well made, we’d love to see the whole game. Windows users can download it here.

Animator Jan Elsner’s short film ÖBST envisions how nature’s sweet treats might move around if they were more like animals. The CG animation was achieved without keyframing, and instead relied on physics simulations and procedural noise functions.
