With the help of AI image generation tech, Corridor created this short fan film in the style of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The crossover imagines that The Avengers (and a whole lot of Spider-Men variants) found their way into the Spider-Verse as a result of the events of Doctor Strange’s actions. Animator Kris Theorin of Something’s Awry created this vibrant and energetic CG animated short film. The roughly 2-minute sequence follows the journey of a young scofflaw as she tests out her fancy new sneakers to outrun the cops in a neon-lit cyberpunk city. The track is a sped-up version of Up All Night by Midnight Riot.

Now that Better Call Saul has wrapped, we’re probably done with the Breaking Bad universe. Animation Therapy paid tribute to Vince Gilligan and his team’s amazing 14-year run of some of the best television ever with a beautiful CGI short film that commemorates some of the series’ iconic props and locations.

AFK follows up on its humorous fan film The Battlefield with another Star Wars-inspired short made with Unreal Engine 5. The Walker focuses on a platoon of snowtroopers who must endure a long and boring ride to Echo Base on Hoth in the cargo hold of a slow-moving AT-AT.

The guys at Corridor Crew thought it was time to expand their repertoire beyond being VFX artists and into product design. So they came up with the idea of creating a line of toys that nobody in their right mind would put into production. Then they pitched their concepts to a group of similarly fake investors.

William Landgren might only be 15 years old, but he’s already an accomplished digital artist. He created this 100% CGI short film about a robot desperate for a drink using Blender, After Effects, Marvelous Designer, and Davinci Resolve. We love the mood he created with the grain and lighting. Redditor Youknowimtheman says their brother is learning how to use the 3D animation program Blender. His short film, “Necromorphosis,” is anything but standard-issue CGI and is one of the strangest things we’ve seen in a while. And if we had to watch it, so do you.

Two Minute Papers shows off a computer graphics tech that can create 3D objects from 2D images. Developed by NVIDIA, the University of Toronto, and the Vector Institute, the tech can work with as little as a single reference photo to produce a 3D model, materials, and lighting. The longer the AI runs, the more detail it extracts.

Artist Lorenzo Drago created this life-like environment using Unreal Engine 5 and Lumen for the lighting. The location is based on Etchū-Daimon Station and is a dead ringer for the real deal. In order to capture the greatest detail, he rendered it at 7fps then sped it up, but it can be rendered in real time with less detail.

Hit play and enjoy as Indiana Jones relives the mine cart chase from The Temple of Doom and the boulder scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark. The soothing kalimba music was performed by BluntoMarx.

The canals in Venice, Italy are swarming with boats, especially the floating city’s iconic gondolas. With the help of the computer graphics software Blender and After Effects, Raffo VFX eased congestion on the waterways by moving the skinny boats to the skies above, making Venice look like a scene out of The Fifth Element.

While WhatCulture sometimes mistakes compositing and rotoscoping for CGI, the video is still worth a watch, as they show off a dozen times that VFX artists managed to create illusions that were so seamlessly integrated that you’d never know they weren’t real.

David Scott of Enbiggen is known for making virtual marble machines inspired by pop culture. This musical machine celebrates the world of Aladdin with an enchanting rendition of A Whole New World performed on xylophone bars.

Unity is one of the most powerful graphics and gaming engines out there, and it keeps getting better. Led by Creative Director Veselin Efremov, the Unity Demo Team put together Enemies, a short film that shows off Unity’s HD render pipeline, adaptive probe volume lighting, strand-based hair, and lifelike digital human capabilities.

Aussie developer Matt Newell is working on an interactive plaything called Lushfoil Photography Sim. Matt’s goal is to envelop players in the most realistic grass, trees, and other environmental elements across detailed landscapes. Marvelous Media Engine created this awesome animated music box based on the Catbus from Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbor Totoro. What’s even more impressive about this is that it’s all CGI, using Blender3D and other CG animation software to pull off the photorealistic look of the zoetrope.

Members of the 2020 graduating class from École des Nouvelles Images created this imaginative CG animated short about two hungry lab rats who get their claws on a hallucinogenic mushroom, and the chaos that ensues in the laboratory after their unintended drug trip.

Motion designer Simon Grabowski created this CG sequence of five very different environments, each of which has one thing in common – they’ve been constrained to a small square box. We loved watching these tiny animated worlds emerge and how they each convey a very different sense of place through scale and texture.
