More than 70,000 bohemians, hippies, punks, and outsiders descended on Nevada’s Black Rock Desert for Burning Man 2022. Filmmaker Jesse Chandler forgot he had applied for a permit to fly a drone at the festival, but we’re glad he got a reminder, or we wouldn’t get to enjoy his amazing aerial time-lapse footage.

After a display of geometric forms, the show culminated with a gigantic 3D human head gazing down at the crowd. Vitaly Katasonov captured video of the performance. The Colorist was tired of the bumpy grounds around Burning Man shaking up and ruining their beer when bicycling. In preparation for the 2022 edition of the desert festival, they came up with a solution. This custom-built rig uses hinges and springs to absorb shocks. It’s basically a Steadicam for beer.

Since 1924, a blazing effigy culminates Zozobra, Santa Fe’s annual festival. The 50’ tall, villainous puppet is stuffed with 1,000s of “glooms” as kindling to burn away fears, failings, and flaws – from past-due bills to divorce papers. This year everyone will virtually torch glooms and watch the bonfire live 9.4.20, 8pm MDT on KOAT.

If there’s one thing you can count on Burning Man for besides sand in every orifice of your body, it’s crazy machines. Among the weird and wonderful creations on display during the desert event last year was Zenichi Works’ Playa Crawler, a crazy chair with motorized Strandbeest style legs to move it along the ground.
