Watch the complex process of assembling an F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter jet, reduced to just about three minutes. Each $52 million dollar plane is almost entirely handbuilt at Boeing’s St. Louis plant, with robots handling only a small portion of the process.
This mechanical chimera is a 1982 Porsche 928 fitted with a Boeing T-50 jet engine. Surprisingly, it’s specs are not off the roof – 365hp with a top speed of 160mph. And it runs on diesel.
The 36 foot-long unmanned aircraft could be used for reconnaissance and to deliver weaponry without putting soldiers in harms way. Boeing expects the prototype to take of as early as this summer.
