Awesome Banksy

Part of the mystique of artist Banksy is that you don’t always know which pieces of art were really made by him. In this video, he reveals that he’s the one behind an image painted on the wall of a UK prison. Banksy cleverly incorporated a description of his process using soothing narration recorded by the late Bob Ross. (Thanks Rob!)

“Yeah so the artist put the frame on as well.” The enigmatic urban artist Banksy made world news yet again when an artwork of his shred itself after being sold at an auction. In this video, Banksy shows how it was triggered, and that it was supposed to shred itself all the way.

“The place where Christmas was invented now feels like a city under siege, and in serious need of some festive cheer.” This hour-long documentary is about how Banksy and director Danny Boyle created a satirical nativity play at Banksy’s hotel at the West Bank Barrier.

In early 2017, protest artist Banksy opened The Walled Off Hotel, an actual hotel right in front of the infamous West Bank barrier. Now it has a gift shop where you can get miniatures of graffiti on the wall, t-shirts, and a mug with the hotel’s slogan: “The Worst View in the World.”

Medicom and Perfect Studio’s third Banksy figurine after the Flower Bomber and the Love Rat. Based on the famous 2003 anti-war stencil, the Bomb Hugger figurine stands nearly 13″ tall and weighs almost 6lb.

Medicom has released limited edition porcelain sculptures of two of Banksy’s most famous graffiti works. The Flower Bomber is 14″ tall and is all white save for his bouquet, while the Love Rat is 10″ tall and is all white but with a red brush tip.

Jamie Brightmore went to Banksy’s satirical theme park three times to preserve the temporary exhibit in film. He says that as depressing as it looks, the park is actually a lot of fun, and it’s all too easy to “for­get about the under­ly­ing mes­sages being presen­ted.” 

Set in a closed seafront lido, Banksy’s parody theme park Dismaland is both an art gallery and an artwork itself. He says the park “offers an escape from mindless escapism”, featuring art by himself and others. On-site photos on Colossal.

Because of the drawn out conflict between Israel and terrorists from Hamas, Gaza’s citizens are imprisoned in their own land, with their access to basic goods heavily regulated. Banksy went there to remind us that these people need help.

In lieu of an acceptance speech for winning the 2014 Webby Awards Person of the Year, graffiti and urban artist Banksy made this video summarizing the spectacle that won him the award, his “residency” in New York.

As part of his guerrilla art show in New York City, Banksy hired a slaughterhouse delivery truck filled with squealing puppet livestock to go around the NYC Meatpacking District. Learn more about it in the hilarious audio guide on his site.
