Awesome Back To The Future

Doc and Marty trade in their DeLorean for something a little more spacious and eco-friendly in this very well executed bit of fakery from the guys at Fort York VFX, who managed to seamlessly graft Tesla’s Cybertruck into a classic scene from Back to the Future.

There’s a lot of stuff that happens to Marty and Doc in Back to the Future, from being blown away by a giant amplifier, to acting as a conductor for a lightning bolt. Jake Roper of Vsauce3 decided to find out if it would be remotely possible to live through all that in this episode of Could You Survive the Movies?

The guys at Best Play Ever offer up a variety of funny notebooks featuring imagery from pop culture, including hilarious memes from The Simpsons, Back to the Future’s Gray’s Sports Almanac, books from the world of Wes Anderson, and more.

Mondo expands its collection of enamel pins for fans of Back to the Future. In addition to their already available hoverboard, license plate, and arrow pins, they just dropped a series of three tricked-out DeLoreans designed by artist Tom Whalen.

Spanish skateboard craft shop Skate-Home makes lamps out of skateboard decks. One of the shop’s designs is inspired by the radical Mattel Hover Board from Back to the Future II. The deck can be displayed horizontally or vertically, and it has a 7W LED light source.

Zen Studios’ excellent digital pinball series gets a major upgrade, adding online multiplayer and user-generated tournaments, and kicks off with three new tables based on Universal films: Jaws, Back to the Future, and E.T. Coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One 9/26/17.

The always educational Captain Disillusion takes a break from debunking viral videos and questionable crowdfunding to kick off a new series about the masters of visual effects. The first episode looks at the ahead-of-their-time visuals in the Back to the Future trilogy.

Go back to the future every time you juice up your gadgets with this USB wall charger from ThinkGeek. It looks just like a miniature version of the critical component from Doc Brown’s DeLorean, though this one is unlikely to facilitate actual time travel.

The latest version of Marty McFly’s shoes have Nike’s HyperAdapt tech, so they tighten when you put them on. Only 89 pairs will be made, all to be raffled online. $10 gets you a ticket, and all proceeds go to The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Ends 10/11/16.

During a recent Coldplay concert in New York, Michael J. Fox took to the stage and reprised his classic performance from Back to the Future. While Fox played electric guitar, Chris Martin took on vocal duties this time. Big love to MJF.

While it’s a few months later than Back to the Future predicted, Nike’s first real self-lacing shoe looks far more stylish and contemporary. A sensor in the heel triggers the adjustable laces when you step in. The HyperAdapt 1.0 will be available to Nike+ members for holiday 2016.

Thanks in large part to Back to the Future, the DeLorean DMC-12 is one of the most iconic cars of all time. Now, the gull-winged cars are going back into production – this time with a 300 to 400hp engine, and uprated tires. Otherwise, the replicas are dead ringers for the original.

Japanese musician 826aska demonstrates her impressive electronic keyboard skills with performances from Back to the Future, Star Wars, Mission Impossible III, and other famous movie themes with a rich and orchestral texture atypical of a single musical instrument.

HISHE tries to come up with a more sensible beginning to Back to the Future: Part II, but it doesn’t make much sense. How’s this for a practical opening: have Doc Brown tell Marty and Jennifer to move after they get married and start their family elsewhere. Problem solved.

“Hydrogen? Are you telling me this sucker’s nuclear?” Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox hang out with scientist Mischa Pollack to find out about a real life Mr. Fusion – the Toyota Mirai’s hydrogen fuel cell. We still prefer the looks of Marty’s Tacoma though.

With Back to the Future Day upon us, and Halloween just around the corner, we can think of no better costume than Marty McFly on a Hoverboard, which makes it look like its wearer is hovering off the ground, without magnets or electricity – just a good old optical illusion.

Toyota did their part for Back to the Future Day by giving Marty the truck he always dreamed of – though the HiLux of the past has been transformed into the awesome new 2016 Tacoma, complete with KC fog lights. Check it out in person in NYC, Dallas or LA on 10/21.
